eh, I'd bet the real legit version is out soon (not inside info,
just my personal guess) and I use my N810 enough to not want to
mess around with hacked up versions and whatnot.
@rcadden: agreed. I
thought about it, but I'm not that desperate for an update. I do
notice that there isn't much of an update to the microB browser and
that's quite disappointing.
think it's 4.1 but will be 5.0 on release ... from what I've
read on that thread.
I thought I read that part of the WiMax device is the ability to
switch between networks (not cellular or back) but between wifi and
wimax. Sort of like how now it will switch between wifi and
cellular when you leave your house ... It really needs to be smart
enough to switch to whatever network is best where you are ... like
the iPhone.
Diable is a feature pack update, not a full out update (in some
respects it is though as many things internally apparently have
been fixed).

There's not really much in the looks dept that has changed IMO;
some of the improvements like the stability, better finger
recognition, and a few other tweaks are nice to have though.
Software should mostly be compatable. It will be the updates after
Diablo that get interesting. For me, that might push me to get a
new IT (that is, if Nokia or Palm doesn't make my holy greeel type
of device)
I've got theories, but the next major update is going to have to
be a huge one. My guess is that is when we will see some of the
fruits of the Trolltech acquisiting in terms of the UI layer of
things. Might see some new hardware form factors, and a definitely
increase in performance in both battery and processor/memory
areas.
What I am not sure about, and is something that I'd really like
to be, is the push of the IT as part of the Share on Ovi
initaitive. The device is pretty much made for those services, and
it would be very beneficial to the not-as-techies purchasers of the
IT to have this tie in work, and work very well. I just don't know
if Nokia sees it that way - or if they are willing to push that
with the IT.
love the thinking ... believe you are on the right track. The
wimax device is not the 4th step in the 5 step plan mentioned at
the N810 launch. it's going to only get MUCH better - and is
clearly a leader in the category now. for me anyway
@atmasphere: right.
Just looking at the OS number alone, I would wager that the
N800/N810/N810WME were all apart of step 3, which was to hit
various users with just enough form factor types that different
wireless lifestyles can be afforded. Step 4 might be the OS, with 5
being something along the lines of the Morph Concept device.
I know Nokia thinks like that. I am think that
they realize that with the next hardware iteration of the IT that
would be better to swing for the fences rather than play
conservative. I don't know that they will...yet. If I did, I'd like
to be QA/QC testing that device right now :D
I'd like to use it too man! The MIDs I played with at MWC were
not so cool. The ones at Intel's IDF in Bejing looked better but
are still MUCH larger and don't seem to offer a whole lot more
actual capability.
I think the issue with the Intel stuff and others is that
they're trying to simply make laptops smaller, and I don't think
that's the best way to do it.
I find the tablet MUCH better because it intends to accomplish
certain tasks that a laptop could, but in a much more
mobile-friendly format.
I am using Diablo now. Not many improvements. The best, now you
don't need reinstall complete OS. When there is an update, an
statusbar applet will show it. Application manager is faster. The
gps driver in the N810 now support AGPS (I haven't tested it yet).
Microb and flash are improved but not much. Modest is the default
email client.

interesting ... wondering if this requires my attention

Yes and no; usable, but defintiely in the bugy heavy mode - link - was page 5 where it started for me, your thread settings might be different though

makes sense it's close with the wimax device here ... the only thing I know about is that handy network switcher

Network switcher? Also, do you know what version this 'found' version is?

I meant like Chinook is on what, 15-1?

OS version from a screen shot that was taken by a person: v 3.2008.18-11

oh ... the most recent release is 50-3 I believe. I am only running -2 on my main tablet as I really just don't have the time to set it all up again

doh. @arjw I like seeing that it's actually 2008 ... we are all on 2007 still.

that's pretty tasty looking ... might actually have to get that on my "other" device

actually maybe not ... still seem like quite the effort

I'm also anxious to see where the next 'real' update takes us.

Personally, I'm hoping it gets more finger friendly, and gets a better cam.

@rcadden: agreed (but that UI needs work to realize that goal; that much Intel is working on).
